A British airport is playing Tina Turner songs to scare off birds from its runways.

''But when our bird distress noises weren't working properly, they turned the tape player on, and that day it was Tina Turner who scared the birds away.''

Gloucestershire Airport has started putting on the 'Private Dancer' hitmaker's top tunes, including her 1992 hit 'Simply the Best', from a loud speaker which is being transported up and down the runway attached to a van.

Darren Lewington, Head of Operations, told the Gloucestershire Echo newspaper: ''Normally we use the speakers on the top of the vehicle we use to drive around the airport to play bird distress calls.
