A set of nine-month-old twins are able to swim 25m in a swimming pool without help.

''It wasn't until we came to swimming lessons and people got so excited about it that we realised just how unusual it was and how clever they were.''

Despite not even reaching their first birthday, Ellie and William Trykush - who are not even able to sit up or crawl on their own - have developed the amazing talent, and their parents didn't even know it was a rarity.

Charley Trykush is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: ''I thought all babies could do it.

''It wasn't until we came to swimming lessons and people got so excited about it that we realised just how unusual it was and how clever they were.''

Their father Vic Trykush is now setting his sights on the 2028 Olympics.

He added: ''Now they can swim and seeing that they were born in an Olympic year, 2012, I would love to see them at the 2028 Olympics possibly, when they're 16, doing the open water swim.''
