Alec Baldwin has spoken about his alcoholic addition in a new book named Moments of Clarity.
Baldwin talks of driving down the motorway drinking wine, and realizing he had a problem.
He writes: “I’m driving down the road, I’m having a drink, it’s 4 o’clock; I’m supposed to have a drink. But one day I went ‘I don’t see anybody else in their car with a plastic takeout containers filled with ice and wine. They’re drinking coffee and they’re drinking diet coke. They’re not drinking wine.”
The 30 Rock star also writes of his regularly partying, which begin in his 20’s but has since then taken over his life. He tells Christopher Kennedy Lawford, the author of the book, how he would regularly party all night, drinking and snorting cocaine before winding down obsessively playing videogames for hours on end, before he could fall asleep.
Six weeks before his 27th birthday in 1985, Baldwin joined a support group, and kicked his additions.
He also adds: “God got me sober. That day God was a black. 65 year old retired postal worker named Lenny. Lenny said, ‘you never have to feel this way again if you don’t want to.’”
Focusing on a group of celebrities who discuss their addictions and how they turned their lives around, the book from Christopher Kennedy Lawford also features contributions from Tom Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis.
