The Mary Jane is an old faithful and a favourite among both fashion lovers and commentators. Even Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw had a moment with a Malono Blahnik pair in the Vogue wardrobe years ago (ah, remembering?) and still we're in love today.

Traditionally, the Mary Jane is a professional looking shoe with a strap and buckle across the front. They're pretty, wonderful and here is a selection to see your collection start or grow...

Perfect for the professional working woman, these grey Mary Janes from Dune are grey for complimenting either smart trousers or court dress for the office. The rounded toe and chunky heel make them stylish and comfortable to wear all day. The contrasting black and grey make them stand out, something we all want our shoes to do. £54.

Though these Carvela black shoes may be Lady Gaga-esque they are great for a rock chick on a night out. The platforms offer great height and will go really well with a retro look. Team with an above the knee skirt and stand-out clutch to make these shoes pop like they were meant to. £65 from Asos.

If you have a formal function to attend over the summer months then these are winners. The lace couldn't be more in fashion and the thin buckle is refined and classy. Simply beautiful, available from Debenhams £38. Bargain.

These blue numbers are FemaleFirst Faves. They may be sling-backs but we don't care. This is statement footwear at it's best and we're loving the colour and buckle detail.

Get these worn with a lacy, cream dress and find an electric blue clutch to match and you have a summer outfit. Done.

Dune £45.

These are the classic Mary Janes. The neutral colour is very trendy, as seen on Kate Middleton to lengthen the leg. Wear with a formal dress or pencil skirt and you'll look and feel sophisticated, sexy perfection. Available from Barratts for £35.

...And that's why we love Mary Janes, don't you?
