Chanel Scraps Mobile Art Show

Chanel has announced that it is to cancel it's Mobile Art exhibition.

The costly exhibition was due to travel to all the major cities in the world in a Space Age themed structure, that was designed by architect Zaha Hadid.

However, with the oncoming recession worsening and bad economic news coming almost daily, it seems the luxury goods industry is suffering worst of all.

A Chanel spokeswoman told WWD: "Considering the current economic crisis, we decided it was best to stop the project. We will be concentrating on strategic growth investments."

The idea for the Mobile Art Exhibition came from the mind of Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld and was billed as one of the most ambitious art-meets fashion combinations.

Initially seen as a luxury that would not be effected by the downturn, by the time it reached Hong Kong in March, the economy was starting to take a dive, and when it landed in Central Park in October, we were in the midst of a worldwide financial crisis.

Plans for it to travel to London, Moscow and Paris have now been scrapped.
