British rockers The Arctic Monkeys look set to lead this year's (12) Nme Awards in Britain after landing seven nominations on Monday (30Jan12).
The Fluorescent Adolescent hitmakers are in the running for the covetedBest British Band trophy, facing competition from the likes of Kasabian,Bombay Bicycle Club, The Horrors and Muse.
The band is also up for awards including Best Album for Suck It and Seeand Best Track for The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala.
Drummer Matt Helders says, "We're up for all the big ones. We're very happy. We had a lot of fun making Suck It And See and it's great to be up for Best Live Band. That's all we do - record or play live - so it's goodto be recognised!" Other groups leading the way at the awards include Kasabian, Muse and Florence the Machine, who have each picked up three nominations.
Florence the Machine's frontwoman Florence Welch is up for Best Solo Artist, alongside Adele, Frank Turner, Laura Marling, Miles Kane and NoelGallagher, who is up for a total of five awards.
The former Oasis star has already been named as the winner of the Godlike Genius prize, while he'll also battle it out for gongs including Best Album (Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds) and Hero of the Year.
His estranged brother Liam Gallagher hasn't fared so well - he's in therunning for Villain of the Year, while his new group Beady Eye have beennominated for Worst Band.
The ceremony will take place at the Brixton O2 Academy in London on 29 February (12).
