Sheer Brillliance!! March 16, 2009 T. Kulkhan (Blackpool, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the fire nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished.
A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new avatar--an air bender named Aang. And although his air-bending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he is ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world."
This monologue is the opening to every episode of the first season of Avatar - the legnd of Aang and I absolutely never got sick of hearing it. This show is amazing, my seven year old sister and I watched it together, she loved it and I loved it. On my own I managed to get through all 20 episodes in 3 sittings. The characters in this show are all endearing, even the enemy Lord Zuko who for his own reasons is tracking the Avatar.
Aang travels the world with his companions, Appa, a huge flying bison, Katara, a waterbender from the south water tribe and Sokka, Katara's brother who has no bending powers. This first season sees Aang and the gang (not intentional rhyme) travelling to the North Pole to find Aang and Katara a waterbending teacher so that Aang can become a full Avatar and save the world from the Evil Fire Lord Ozai, along the way Aang learns what happened to the world in his absence and what he must do to save those suffering.
The animation is brilliantly drawn and the colours are sublime. Every episode is a treat to watch and is vibrant with humour and messages about how our actions can affect others. The rich dialogue gives it a boost and the character voices are well chosen, the actors play their characters well. The creators of this show make tension work well and know how to build up a show, by the final episode you will be begging to see more and find out what's happening with Aang.
This is a treat for the family and something I heavily recommend that you watch, you will not be dissapointed. ENJOY!

AVATAR THE LEGEND OF AANG SEASON 1 March 1, 2009 JASON HADEN (Kildare Rep. Ireland) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My five yaer old daughter got me hooked onto this cartoon. As we all know life does not allow us to see all the episodes of a show that we would watch on a regular basis. So when Avatar The Legend of Aang came out on dvd in the box set I grabed a copy so now I can sit down with my daughter and watch the show from begining to end at our choosing. I also bought the second season and will get the other seasons when released.
Avatar the last Airbender, AMAZING! August 30, 2010 Twilight Koala OMG this is probably one of the best animated cartons ever! The plot is engaging and dynamic, but not as predictable as many childrens shows, making it entertaining for everyone! Book 1 introduces and develops characters so you are able to understand them without feeling lectured, although at times I wished that there were subtitles to catch names. Overall though, the speech is so clear that you don't need them. The lack of extra features, while certainly not a bonus, does not detrct from the overall viewing experience.
Here is something to give you an idea of how compelling this series is. I caught one episode on TV and then had to buy the episodes straight away! I can't wait to get into Book 2!!!
Awesome, Not a better animation, VERY addictive August 14, 2010 Master Grubb Im a 13 year old sportsman who would rather watch sky sports than anything else. But one day there was no sport on so i went to nickelodeon to see if there was anything on, but all was on was rubbish programs, but then on Nick toons i saw Avatar The last Airbender,i watched the full episode on the edge of my seat, and as the episode finished i was so interested when my mates called on me to play football i said no, and carried on watch the last Airbender episodes, i got so in to it that i bought all the series ( which were brilliant ) and watch all the episodes about 10 times in a month, and every day i will watch one, im so into it. Its seriously addictive. I would recommend this to ages of 0 to 100. Now sometimes instead of watching say the champions league final i might watch The last Airbender! Also the last Airbender ( if you have not watched it before ) is a japan anime with english/american comedy and cool martial arts type of bending the elements ( water, air, fire and earth )
