5 out of 5 stars Amazing debut album   June 4, 2006

From start to finish this is one of the best debut albums released this year. Highlights of the album being, apart from the singles, Keep Your Eyes Peeled and By My Side. The energy and youth of the cowbridge 4 piece is reflected in the songs, each of which is brimming with style from start to finish. There is not a weak song on this album and I would highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars In terms of enjoyment!   July 3, 2007

Ok I accept the criticism of the other reviewers here - there is way too much repetition in this album and certainly a couple of tracks at least that seem largely unneccessary. I still love it though. The 5 star mark is based purely on my own enjoyment of the record. About half the songs are, in my opinion, genuinely very good. Even the weaker ones are rescued by the sharp sound and the bands deranged enthusiasm (although keyboardist Pennie has worryingly begun expressing unhappiness with the material).

Opening track 'That's what she said' is a dance-punk call to arms while 'Recover' reveals a thrilling glimpse of The Automatic's hardcore background. The stand out track for me is 'By my side' which sounds a bit like Refused doing the Doctor Who theme - this is actually a very good thing! Oh, and there's this song called 'Monster' but you might have heard that already.

5 out of 5 stars A New Energy!   June 27, 2006

This album is one that will get you singing, playnig air guitar and jumping around trynig to be Pennie the hyperactive synth/vocals band member.

Once you've bought this album make sure you see them live, they won't disapoint! Absolutely great!

Everyone seems to be tipping this as one of the albums of the year. I think that is a serious and credible idea! Keep your eyes pealed!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome album   June 21, 2006

Not a weak track on this album and every track is up tempo. It gets better with every listen. If you like you indie rock with added synths, great main vocals and addictive shouty backing vocals then this my friends is perfect for you. I've been watching these guys for the past year or so from the first massively overlooked single 'Recover', past the midly noticed brilliantly catchy 'Raoul' to the fantastic summer anthem 'Monster'that has caught the ears of everyone and climbed from number 23 in the charts from downloads only to number 4 where its been for the last couple of weeks.

All I can see is...get your butts over the hill, down the road and into a shop quickly to buy this as its selling fast!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!   June 27, 2006

As expected, The Automatic have delivered an amazing debut. There's not a single bad track on this album! After having the singles 'Recover', 'Raoul' and 'Monster' on practically continuous repeat for the past few months, it's the rest of the album which I love to listen to, especially 'You Shout You Shout You Shout', 'Keep Your Eyes Peeled' and the awsome intro to 'By Your Side'.

Love it!
