Harry Hill's Royal Burp Award

Harry Hill won the top prize at the Royal Television Society Awards last night (16.03.10).

The comedian star picked up the coveted Best Entertainment Performance honour at the television awards ceremony for his ITV1 comedy show 'Harry Hill's TV Burp'.

The 45-year-old funnyman had been up against presenting duo Ant and Dec, for their work on the shows 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' and 'Britain's Got Talent', and comedian Michael McIntyre for his 'Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow'.

'EastEnders' - which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year - was honoured with the best Soap and Continuing Drama award, after beating 'The Bill' and 'Casualty' to the prize. ITV1's 'Coronation Street' and 'Emmerdale' both failed to get shortlisted for the honour.

The star-studded ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London yesterday, and was hosted by 'Gavin and Stacy' star Rob Brydon.

Simon Cowell and his two reality TV shows 'The X Factor' and 'Britain's Got Talent' were snubbed from the prizes and lost out in the Best Entertainment section to 'Newswipe with Charlie Brooker'.

The BBC won 18 out of the 25 awards, with comedy show 'The Thick Of It' scooping the Best Scripted Comedy gong after going head-to-head against 'The Inbetweeners' and 'Mirander'.

There was a further blow to the 'Britain's Got Talent' team, when judge Piers Morgan lost out on the Best Presenter award to Louis Theroux, for his work on the BBC documentary 'A Place For Paedophiles'. James May had also been up for this honour.
