'Coronation Street's Sunita Alahan will stun her ex-husband by telling him she is marrying someone else.

Actress Shobna Gulati - who quit the ITV soap in 2006 - is returning to the programme and has promised fans Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) is in for a shock when he discovers how much her life has moved on.

She said: "It will be revealed that Sunita is engaged to another man called Matt Davis who is totally gorgeous. He works in Cash and Carry.

"Sunita hasn't told Dev and that's interesting. Is it because she's not sure of him herself, or because she is afraid of how Dev will react?"

Despite her character's new relationship, Shobna says viewers shouldn't rule out a reconciliation between her character and the lothario shopkeeper, with whom Sunita has four-year-old twins Asha and Aadi.

She added: "She's moved on but there's still something there. You'll see that their rows are fiery and the silences are very cold. They do say there's a thin line between love and hate.

"I'd say it was a possibility they could get back together."
