But what's interesting is that we're seeing Brits get more spontaneous with their plans - with some only committing to booking a hotel at the very last minute when they know their date is going well

More than one million Britons book spontaneous hotels on Valentine's Day (14.02.13).

If their dates are lucky enough to go well on the most romantic day of the year then 1.4 million randy people are quick to sort out some makeshift accommodation for the evening, according to a study by Hotels.com.

The research - which polled 2,000 Brits - discovered more than one in 10 booking a hotel for Valentine's Day this year will do so because they still live with their parents, almost a third of whom are over the age of 35 (31.2 per cent).

What's more, more than 3.4 million Brits have admitted seeing their colleagues do the ''walk of shame'' by coming into work the next day wearing the same clothes.
