Japanese man visits UK for snail championships

I have shelled out to be here and it's well worth it.

A Japanese man has travelled to England for The World Snail Racing Championships.

John Diksa flew over from the Asian country for the annual competition - which takes place in Norfolk and sees snails race to become the quickest along the 13-inch course - and he said the experience was "well worth it".

He said: "I have shelled out to be here and it's well worth it."

Zoomer the snail, owned by Anton Lucas from nearby Ashwicken, was crowned the champion in a time of three minutes 23 seconds, but the six-year-old boy revealed he is going to let his pet go back to the woods.

He said: "It's lovely to win. I am going to set Zoomer free in the woods."
