'Assassin's Creed Odyssey' has beaten 2017's Origins in launch week sales.
Although physical console sales were down 25 percent on last year's game, Ubisoft will be pleased with the overall worldwide performance of the new title in the series.
As reported by Eurogamer, an announcement from the studio revealed 'Odyssey' has found itself tracking above 'Origins', 'Unity' and 'Syndicate', with the studio saying it has had the franchise's best launch-week performance of this console generation".
Ubisoft executive Geoffroy Sardin has praised the team for their efforts with the new title, confirming "robust content plans" to keep everyone coming back for more.
He added: "We are incredibly proud of what the team accomplished with 'Assassin's Creed Odyssey', and humbled by the amazing reception from critics and players.
"Launch is just the start of this epic journey. We have robust content plans for 'Assassin's Creed Odyssey' that will keep players engaged and exploring the game's beautiful and compelling world for a long time to come."
Although the company hasn't publicly revealed a specific first week sales figure for 'Odyssey', it explained it includes internal estimates of physical and digital game sales, alongside revenue from microtransactions, which are referred to as 'player recurring investment' in the press release.
