Developers Square Enix have said they are hoping to get the "more compact" version running with patch 5.3.

They said: "We're working on adjusting the A Realm Reborn main scenario to be more compact, and are aiming for patch 5.3."

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Final Fantasy XIV Online' won't be released on Xbox One until Microsoft allow for cross-play.

The multiplayer online role-playing game currently offers cross-play support for users on PlayStation 4 and PC - meaning they can play online with anyone, even if they're using a different system - but it seems the reason the title isn't available on Xbox consoles yet is because Microsoft won't allow cross-play.

Game director Naoki Yoshida said he spoke to Xbox boss Phil Spencer and said the developers of the 'Final Fantasy' titles are "prepared" to do cross-play at any time, suggesting it is Xbox manufacturers Microsoft who won't budge on the idea.

Yoshida said: "Two months ago, I discussed with Phil Spencer. I have explained this before but we are prepared to do cross-play at any time. I would like to have Microsoft change their regulations."

According to the director, cross-play allows for players to have the best experience playing the title, as it means social networking and features such as in-game chat and guilds are available to all players, and not just those who are playing on a certain console.

Yoshida said in March that the possibility of getting 'Final Fantasy XIV Online' to consoles like Xbox and the Nintendo Switch was "quite high", as other games such as 'Fortnite' and 'Rocket League' are starting to offer cross-play support, meaning the demand for the function is higher.

He said: "Talks with platform-holders has been going on. The fundamental philosophy with Final Fantasy XIV is we want it on labels with cross-platform play with any devices, hardware possible. So as long as the regulations with the counterpart hardware companies ... we can actually pass that, then the possibility, the chance is quite high [of 'Final Fantasy XIV' coming to Xbox and Nintendo systems]."
