Epic Games' big 'Fortnite' announcement at The Game Awards 2018 isn't about season seven.

The annual show will take place on December 6, which just so happens to be the same day season six of the popular gaming title comes to an end, so it was rumoured that this could mean there will be an introduction of the next season.

Geoff Keighley, the creator of The Game Awards, teased during a live Q&A ahead of the event: "'Fortnite' actually got announced by CliffyB at the VGAs 2011, very different game but yeah it was announced back then and we're excited that they will be a part of the show - we definitely have some 'Fortnite' news, Donald Mustard will be here, they are a nominee aswell so stay tuned for that."

Pressed on further details about the announcement, he replied: "Yes, there will be 'Fortnite' news at The Game Awards - I don't think we've publicly said that yet but uh - yeah there will be stuff around 'Fortnite'."

However, Epic Games' PR chief Nick Chester has rebuffed the rumours, retweeting Geoff's post, which reads: "Thursday during #TheGameAwards don't miss a @fortnitegame announcement and world premiere from Epic's @DonaldMustard, streaming live at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT everywhere. And oh yeah, keep your game close. #WorldsWillChange (sic)".

And adding: "I can't stress enough how much we have going on this week. Geoff isn't talking about Season 7 launch here. Tune in! (sic)"

'Fornite' is nominated for Best Ongoing Game, Best Mobile Game, Best Multiplayer Game and Best Esports Game at the ceremony.
