'Ghost Recon Breakpoint' is free to play this weekend on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Ubisoft's online tactical shooter wasn't received as warmly as the studio would have hoped - both in terms of sales and critical response - but the studio has stuck with the title, with fixes and improvements being issued.
The culmination of this came this week as the team introduced the long-awaited Ghost Experience update.
Included in the new feature is the Immersive Mode, which is one of three possible ways to the play the game alongside the original version and a customisable variant.
From now until Monday (30.03.20), curious gamers can test out these new changes for free and decide whether they're enough to invest in the game.
In a previous blog post, Ubisoft revealed: "On March 24, the Ghost Experience is coming to 'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint'.
"Pick one of our pre-selected settings or modify parameters to create the unique experience you want.
"The Ghost Experience has been a complex undertaking to implement into the game, but one we feel is critical to address many of the top concerns raised by our community via online feedback and the Community Survey."
Responding to criticism levied at the game when it launched last year, players will now have a choice of taking on the title the way it was released, or a new "immersive" version which offer new tactical options and removes "gear level and tiered loot entirely".
