'Death Stranding' creator Hideo Kojimo insists its genre is something "totally brand new".
The man behind the beloved 'Metal Gear Solid' series has opened up about his highly anticipated title, and he has shrugged off comparions to his previous games.
He tweeted: "DS is not a stealth game. Could move subjectively but not a FPS shooting game either.
"By incorporating with the concept of connection (strand), it's totally brand new genre called action game/strand game (social strand system)."
In a previous blog post, Kojima explained the concept of a "strand" game, and outlined what it will mean for the gaming community.
He explained: "It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the Strand or connection.
"As [Norman Reedus character] Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or 'Strands' with other players around the globe. "Through your experience playing the game, I hope you'll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others."
Although Kojima won't be drawn into clarifying the 'Death Stranding' genre outright, gamers will finally be able to decide for themselves when the title drops in November this year.
