'Hitman 3' is "well underway", IO Interactive has confirmed.

The developers announced that they will be releasing one final update for 2016's 'Hitman 2', which will arrive later this month, before focusing on the next instalment of the popular stealth video games series.

In a blog post, they said: "We're now at a place where we are looking increasingly to the future.

"In real terms, we're moving more and more of the 'Hitman 2' team to join the next 'Hitman' game, which is well underway.

"This means that we're expecting the November Update to bring the final major patch and set of Release Notes for Hitman 2, while December will round out the year with the remaining new content drops for the game ... as well as the permanent return of some Seasonal Content."

'Hitman 2' saw Hollywood legend Sean Bean portray former MI5 agent turned freelance assassin, Mark Faba, who became notorious for faking his own death.
