Microsoft and Sony have joined forced to create "new innovations to enhance customer experiences".
The new partnership between the video game competitors has been announced with a particular focus on gaming and content-streaming, and part of the deal includes Sony looking into Azure - Microsoft's cloud computing platform - and looking at how they can team up for future cloud solutions.
According to the official press release, the goal is to "deliver more enhanced entertainment experiences" for customers, and to build "better development platforms for the content creator community".
Kenichiro Yoshida, Sony president and CEO, said: "Our mission is to seamlessly evolve [PlayStation] as [a platform] that continues to deliver the best and most immersive entertainment experiences, together with a cloud environment that ensures the best possible experience, anytime, anywhere."
And Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella added that the partnership would build on Sony's "history of innovation".
He explained: "Sony has always been a leader in both entertainment and technology, and the collaboration we announced today builds on this history of innovation... Our partnership brings the power of Azure and Azure AI to Sony to deliver new gaming and entertainment experiences for customers."
