Nintendo Direct confirmed at their E3 2018 conference on Tuesday (12.6.18) that the survival game is being released on the new Switch console and it launched the same day.

But a cross-platform restriction means any users who have played 'Fortnite' on a PlayStation 4 have found themselves locked out on Switch.

Reddit reports that anyone logging into their Epic Games account on the Switch when they have previously connected with a PSN ID will be greeted with the message: "This Fortnite account is associated with a platform which does not allow it to operate on Switch. Neither the Fortnite website nor Epic Customer Service are able to change this. To play Fortnite on Switch, please create a new account. (sic)"

Creating a new account means losing all previous progress, purchases and friends lists players have made in the game.

However, 'Fortnite' players who have previously used a PC, Xbox or mobile will not encounter the problem.

The news that 'Fortnite' was coming to Switch had been leaked ahead of the gaming expo. But Nintendo also confirmed the game will be available in local and online multiplayer.
