PlayStation 5 will be "approximately 100 times faster" than its predecessor.
The much-anticipated new console will offer a level of speed never seen before in the history of the PlayStation franchise, according to Sony.
The tech giant said in an official document: "In order to further enhance the sense of immersion in games, we expect to improve not just the resolution, but the speed of games.
"For example, through a custom-designed high-speed SSD, we plan to realise game data processing speeds that are approximately 100 times faster than PS4.
"Game load times should be much shorter, and players should be able to move through immense game worlds in almost an instant."
Earlier this month, meanwhile, Sony confirmed that PlayStation 5 will be released later in 2020 - despite the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The eagerly-awaited console has been the subject of speculation in recent times, with consumers fearing that its launch would be pushed back until 2021.
But, Sony said: "Although there has been a slight impact on production of PS4 hardware due to issues in the component supply chain, demand in the short-term is being addressed with current inventory and sales are trending well."
