Marc Jacobs has joined the board of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
The designer - head of his self-titled label and creative director Louis Vuitton - has been inducted to the board, alongside Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez, masterminds of womenswear label Proenza Schouler.
It makes me more aware of the responsibility that comes with it.
The three were inducted at a members' meeting on Tuesday (25.10.11), after being nominated to join the board in July.
Other board members include Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa, Oscar de la Renta, Narciso Rodriguez and Tory Burch.
The council also celebrated welcoming 33 new designers to its fold with a reception at Donna Karan's Central Park West home on Tuesday.
Diane von Furstenberg welcomed the class of 2011 with a "we are a family" speech.
New members include Fenton/Fallon's Dana Lorenz, Alexa Adams and Flora Gill from Ohne Titel; Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham from United Bamboo; Kip Chappelle and Sonja Rubin from Rubin & Chappelle; Nine West's Fred Allard , Tucker's Gaby Basora and Prabal Gurung, among others.
Of being included in the council, Prabal said: "I was saw Ralph Lauren with Oprah Winfrey last night, and seeing the magnitude of his work and how humble he is still, Donna Karan was my first internship in New York. Marc Jacobs and Narciso Rodriguez -all of these designers that I admire and respect and now I'm part of the family.
"It makes me more aware of the responsibility that comes with it."
Another new member, Christian Cota told how he appreciates the security aspect of CFDA membership.
He told fashionetc.com: "They really support you and for me it's a safety net. I think that's what I like the most, like, if you need advice. It's amazing how people are so welcoming."
