Director David O.Russell has been honored for his work supporting underprivileged kids who want a career in the movie business.
The Oscar-nominee is a longtime supporter of New York's Ghetto Film School, an organization which teaches teenagers the basics of filmmaking, and he was feted for his contributions at a ceremony in the Big Apple on Monday (13Jun11).
O.Russell was the guest of honor at the 2011 Ghetto Film School SpringBenefit at The Standard Hotel, where he was presented with a prize in honor of his work with the organization.
Other stars at the event included Blake Lively, who appeared onscreen with the director when he made a guest appearance in her hit TV show Gossip Girl.
O'Russell was last seen in the director's chair for The Fighter, which starred Mark Wahlberg and Bale.
The movie went on to be nominated for Best Picture, losing out to The King's Speech but Bale picked up a Best Supporting Actor gong while Melissa Leo won Best Supporting Actress.
