We have already been treated to the first image from Black Mass this week and now the first trailer for the film has dropped.
The movie sees Johnny Depp take on the role of notorious criminal Whitey Bulger - and it looks like it is going to be quite a chilling performance from the Oscar nominated actor.
Depp is not stranger to the crime genre with Public Enemies and Donnie Brasco under his belt over the years, and I am excited to see him get under the skin of this well crime figure. The actor has also undergone quite a physical transformation for this latest role.
The first trailer for the film has arrived and I really cannot wait to see the rest.
Black Mass marks the return of Scott Cooper to the director's chair; this is the third feature film of his career and follows on from Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnace. This will also mark the first time that the filmmaker has worked with Depp.
And Cooper has brought together a terrific cast as Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Corey Stoll, Juno Temple, Dakota Johnson, Kevin Bacon, Adam Scott, and Peter Sarsgaard are all also on board.
In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James 'Whitey' Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob.
Black Mass tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.
Depp is one of the greatest actors of his generation and I can't wait to see him get back to a real character driven piece. This could be one of the early unmissbale movies of the autumn.
