Cyndi Lauper, Dave Matthews, David Crosby and Whoopi Goldberg were among the stars who shared the stage with spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Tuesday (09Oct12) at the One World Concert in New York.

Singers Roberta Flack, Natasha Bedingfield and Nelly Furtardo, hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz and Jewish rapper Matisyahu were also part of the line-up on the final night of the two-day Common Ground for Peace event.

Speaking before the gig, British pop star Bedingfield told reporters she was excited to perform for the Buddhist leader "People can be inspired, people can be united through the music, that's why it's great to have music with this kind of event".

An estimated 24,000 people crowded into Syracuse University's Carrier Dome to witness the show and hear the Dalai Lama speak about his peace hopes for the future.

The celebration closed with Flack leading a mass sing-a-long of John Lennon's hope anthem Imagine on what would have been the late Beatle's 72nd birthday.
