They'll be club tunes but not the really banging ones. But making songs like that always gives you the scope to do a really banging remix, which we'll probably try and do as well.

Hot Chip are making a "gentle" record

Synth player Joe Goddard has revealed the band - also consisting of Alexis Taylor, Owen Clarke, Felix Martin and Al Doyle - are looking for a change of direction on the follow-up to 2008 LP 'Made in the Dark'.

He said: "We're kind of stepping things down a bit because we want to make this next album quite simple, gentle, focussed; just 10 or 11 tracks of really excellent pop songs that hopefully will become timeless classics."

Despite the claims, Joe insists the currently unnamed album - which is in the process of being recorded - will not be a dramatic change from the electro-pop sound that made the group famous.

He explained: "They'll be club tunes but not the really banging ones. But making songs like that always gives you the scope to do a really banging remix, which we'll probably try and do as well."

The 'Over and Over' hitmaker claimed the LP is heavily influenced by Womack and Womack's single 'Teardrops' and Crystal Waters' track 'Gypsy Woman'.
