Sergio Aguero is a doubt for Argentina's World Cup qualifier versus Paraguay with Nicolas Otamendi and Pablo Zabaleta both already out.
The Manchester City striker was substituted during Argentina's 2-2 draw with Peru on Friday amid fears he has suffered a calf injury.
He was involved in a training match on Sunday as Edgardo Bauza's men prepared for the visit of Paraguay to Cordoba this week, but was taken off after feeling pain in his left calf muscle.
Reports claim Aguero then went to work with the national team's physiotherapists and, although he has not officially been ruled out yet, his participation is in doubt.
City boss Pep Guardiola has already lost Bacary Sagna to injury during the current international break with the Frenchman out for at least a month with a torn hamstring.
Vincent Kompany, Fabian Delph and Kevin De Bruyne are also set to miss the Everton match at the weekend, but City have at least received positive news about their Belgian midfielder's rehabilitation.
Guardiola has seen Zabaleta and Otamendi return to Manchester from South America earlier than expected after they picked up suspensions that rule them out of the Paraguay clash.
