Chelsea are reportedly confident their offer to make Thibaut Courtois the best-paid goalkeeper in the world will persuade him to stay.

The Blues have put all efforts to sign a potential replacement on hold as they focus on tying up a new deal for the Belgian to stay until 2023.

The Daily Telegraph claims the latest offer would see Courtois earn, including bonuses, more than the £200,000 a week David De Gea is paid by Manchester United.

Chelsea's fears that Real Madrid would tempt the 25-year-old back to Spain, where Courtois played for three seasons on loan at Atletico, will be allayed by the World Club Cup holders' interest in Athletic Bilbao keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Courtois, who will only have one year left on his current £100,000-a-week deal at the end of this season, has made it clear that he eventually wants to return to Spain, where his two young children live.

He rejected Chelsea's first new contract offer in May, but Blues officials have now come back with a proposal that they hope will be too good to turn down.
