The Teessiders have won just one of their opening seven Premier League games and sit 16th following a draw with West Ham prior to the international break.

Karanka is keen to see the newly promoted side start climbing up the table and hopes they can use the time off to their advantage.

Boro only have a few players absent on international duty and the Spaniard insists confidence levels have been growing as they continue to work hard on the training pitches.

Karanka said: “A few of the players are away with their national teams but it’s always good to spend time with the players on the training pitch.

“Especially as we lost three games and got just one point (at West Ham).

“The main thing for me was for the players to recover their confidence (before the international break), and I could feel in the changing room after the West Ham game that it was completely different than it was against Everton or Tottenham.”
