Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Boyd will be out for several weeks after having an operation on his shoulder.
Summer signing Boyd missed Tuesday night's home win against Brentford and is the second Owls player to be sidelined through surgery this month after Fernando Forestieri.
"He has an injury in the shoulder," head coach Carlos Carvalhal told BBC Radio Sheffield after his side's 2-1 victory lifted them up to sixth place.
"Very strange for a footballer because it's the shoulder and he had surgery and must be out for some weeks.
"It's football. I'm so sorry about him because he's a very nice guy and a fantastic professional.
"He can help us a lot. But he's out, we must continue with our life. We won without him and without Forestieri."
Forward Forestieri will be sidelined for at least three months due to a knee injury, which Carvalhal confirmed last week required an operation.
Forestieri, 27, struggled with the problem at the end of last season and was told surgery was needed when consulting with a specialist in London during the international break.
