Colchester will assess forward Dion Sembie-Ferris ahead of the Sky Bet League Two match against Newport.
Sembie-Ferris scored his first senior goal in the midweek Checkatrade Trophy defeat by Southampton Under-23s, but had to go off with a thigh injury.
Defender Frankie Kent has stepped up his recovery following a knee problem, while winger Brennan Dickenson (hamstring) and midfielder Tom Lapslie (ankle) are still out, along with Owen Garvan (leg) and Doug Loft (Achilles).
Defender Matt Briggs (hip) and midfielder Louis Dunne (ankle) are long-term absentees. Centre-back George Elokobi has joined Braintree on loan.
Newport caretaker manager Sean McCarthy will check on the fitness of a handful of players.
Mark Randall (hamstring), Scot Bennett (neck) and Paul Bignot (ankle) are all nursing injuries following the midweek defeat to Swansea in the EFL Trophy.
Jamie Turley's knock will continue to be monitored along with Joss Labadie's hamstring problem as McCarthy hopes to have at least one of them back in contention on Saturday.
Otherwise McCarthy may have to "put a lot of square pegs in round holes" as he looks to steer the division's bottom club to a first win in eight league matches.
