Pogba was surprisingly dropped to the bench for last Saturday's 2-0 home win over Huddersfield Town, but looks set to be recalled for the clash at St James' Park.

Jones was rested last week but is part of the squad that will travel to the North East, together with fellow centre-backs Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back in training with the first-team squad after almost a two-month absence, but is unlikely to feature.

Ashley Young could come in for Luke Shaw at left-back with Anthony Martial in line for a recall on the wing.

Marouane Fellaini is out for six to eight weeks after undergoing a knee operation.

United squad: De Gea, Romero, Pereira, Valencia, Darmian, Jones, Lindelof, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Young, Matic, Carrick, McTominay, Herrera, Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Martial, Rashford, Sanchez, Lukaku.
