Yeovil boss points the Way forward after win over Wycombe

Yeovil manager Darren Way hailed the spirit of his players as they edged out Wycombe 1-0 in a tense encounter at Huish Park.

Ryan Hedges sealed three points for the hosts when he tapped in a rebound after Alex Lawless had hit the post from 25 yards.

Although chances were few and far between, Yeovil looked assured throughout as they restricted their opponents to a handful of efforts themselves.

The Glovers moved up to 18th in Sky Bet League Two and Way is confident that his side will continue to make progress having won three of their last five games.

He said: "I thought the game plan was spot on.

"The players are very well equipped now. We were very direct, got runners in behind, but I just keep saying to the players, if they keep playing like they have been they're not going to be far away.

"There was a vibe all week. They've looked hungry, they've all looked like they want to fight for each other, so the support that we've had from everyone is good, it feels good and I feel very proud as a manager to stand here.

"Every day we have been working hard and I feel the players have been rewarded. They are developing, but when you can develop and win at the same time, the club's going in the right direction."

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth must now set about trying to rectify his side's form on the road, with the Chairboys having picked up just a single point on their travels so far this season.

Despite dominating possession in the second half, the visitors lacked energy and creativity with Yeovil rarely troubled as they saw out the game with ease.

Ainsworth said: "Sometimes it happens, but we weren't good today and it's unfortunate that it has come away from home, where we want to get our form going.

"The last three games have been fantastic and that's what makes me feel even worse about the performance today because I know we've been superb in the last three games.

"We're usually very good on the road and in the last two seasons we've been fantastic, so we're just getting the rest of the squad back now and I'm sure things will turn around again quite quickly.

"We've got quite a long October with a lot of long away trips and hopefully we've got some chances to start getting some points on the board away from home because our home form has been fantastic."
