Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino says 20-year-old midfielder Harry Winks is pushing for a starting spot.
Winks made his Premier League bow as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool in August and has managed four appearances in total this term, with one start coming in the EFL Cup win over Gillingham.
Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are currently ahead of Winks in the pecking order but Pochettino says the youngster is involved in the battle for a starting spot.
"Don't forget Harry Winks too, who is coming and pushing a lot from behind," he told reporters.
"Maybe last season there was only him [Dier], this season we want to improve our squad. It's not a problem.
"Now the players need to feel the competition. There is Wanyama in his position, too. You have to look forward and carry on working."
