Williams chief Paddy Lowe believes the team can depend on Felipe Massa and feels he is world champion material.
The Brazilian is understood to be on the verge of signing a one-year extension to his current deal and he appears to have the full support of the team.
Massa currently sits 11th in the Drivers’ Championship at the midway point of the season, having picked up points in six races, with his best performances coming in Australia and Bahrain when he came home sixth.
Lowe insists Massa is a pleasure to work with and feels he is capable of challenging for the world title if provided with a competitive car.
“Felipe is world champion material, we saw that from the season he was briefly world champion,” said Lowe to Motorsport.com.
“He is clearly very talented and it’s a great pleasure to work with him and find out how he works.
“He’s a fantastic guy to work with.
“He’s fun to work with and a very stable and dependable guy to have on the other side of the garage. I think if we could give Felipe the right car, he could go and get the job done.”
