Werder Bremen captain Clemens Fritz has revealed he has spoken to Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker about a return to the club.
Germany international Mertesacker will be out of contract at the Emirates this summer and so far it's uncertain whether the Gunners will offer the 32-year-old fresh terms in north London.
There is plenty of reported interest in the defender with Hannover also known to be keen, however a return to Werder Bremen has been suggested as the most likely move.
Fritz has admitted he has been in contact with the centre-back and feels it would be a great boost for Bremen if they could lure the defender back to the club which he left for the Premier League back in 2011.
"We have talked about [a potential return]," he told Bild. "Per would be a great addition to Werder - as a footballer and as a person.
"It would be a good thing for the club when Per would opt for Bremen."
