Chris Paisley says he is excited about aiming to extend the fine record of English players at the SA Open Championship.
The Hexham-born star carded eight birdies and a bogey on the way to a 65 on Friday at Glendower GC, helping him move to 13-under following an opening 66.
He is joined on that score by France's Adrien Saddier and their total is enough to leave the pair four clear of Jacques Kruyswijk.
Overnight leaders Branden Grace and Chase Koepka failed to kick on and are joined on eight-under by Retief Goosen.
Paisley is yet to win on the European Tour but this tournament has a habit of throwing up English success, with three of the last four winners coming from these shores.
The 31-year-old is excited about the weekend and is relishing the chance of leading heading into the final two rounds.
Paisley said: "I can't wait for the weekend. Obviously, I have never been in this position before, so tomorrow, I'm just going to go and play and do my best.
"At the moment it's weird, I feel like I didn't play amazing. I certainly hope that I can keep that trend (of Englishmen winning the BMW SA Open) going."
