Tiger Woods will return to competitive action next week after a 14-month stint on the sidelines.
Woods has not played competitively since the 2015 Wyndham Championship due to back problems, which required two surgeries.
The 14-time major winner did declare his intention to feature in the Safeway Open at the start of last month and his involvement is now official, as the PGA Tour have confirmed he has formally committed to the tournament.
The 40-year-old, who served as a vice-captain in the victorious USA Ryder Cup squad last week, could then turn his attentions to the Turkish Airlines Open in November on the European Tour if he comes through the Safeway Open unscathed.
