The City boss has been very impressed with the 31-year-old so far this season, which has been reflected by the fact he has played in every minute of the club's opening seven Premier League matches.

Fernandinho is now inside the final year of his current deal at the Etihad Stadium and Guardiola wants him tied down for the longer term, to avoid risking him being lured away to pastures new and agreeing a pre-contract agreement with a club outside England in January.

Reports claim Guardiola will offer a new two-year deal to Fernandinho when he returns from international duty with Brazil.

Fernandinho had a hand in City new boy Gabriel Jesus' goal as Brazil thrashed Bolivia 5-0 in Thursday's World Cup qualifier and is poised to feature in Tuesday's final October qualifier against Venezuela.
