Stoke boss Paul Lambert has told Jese he will play his part over the rest of the season but he must continue to work on his fitness.
The on-loan Paris Saint-Germain forward has struggled for regular action in recent months as he's battled injury and fitness problems, while he's also had off-the-pitch problems, but he made a return as a sub in the draw with Brighton last time out.
Lambert was impressed with his cameo appearance and hopes the former Real Madrid man will play his part between now and the end of the season, even though he says he must improve his fitness levels.
'He’s playing a bit of catch up, Jese, but the 20 minutes he came on last Saturday he offered us something different,' Lambert told the club's website.
'I don’t think he’s near the match level of fitness I need, right at the minute, but he provides that bit of spark and magic that can unlock defences. I thought his contribution against Brighton was pretty decent.
'He’s got a key role to play, definitely he has. The sad thing is that he’s had his problems away from the ground. Hopefully that is better now and we can start getting him fitter than what he is.'
