Jose Mourinho has again insisted Morgan Schneiderlin wanted to leave Manchester United as the Reds struggle with injuries in midfield.
Schneiderlin joined Everton in the January transfer window after struggling for regular action at United, and Mourinho admitted at the time that he was reluctant to let the Frenchman leave.
It is a decision that has come back to haunt the Reds as they have been hit by a number of injuries in midfield as they battle for Europa League glory and a place in the top four.
Schneiderlin would certainly be in the side right now, and Mourinho's decision to let him go when he could have blocked the move, has now been questioned.
"We didn't tell Morgan 'we want to sell you'," Mourinho revealed. "Morgan asked us, 'Please sell me. I want to go, I want to play every game'.
"To have lots of players not playing is something the players don't want. So sometimes there's always this dilemma of (wanting to) keep a bigger squad, but the players don't want to stay.
"Even sometimes young players, when they are not playing, they ask to leave."
