Fenerbahce boss Aykut Kocaman has admitted they have failed in an attempt to sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
The Istanbul-based club were pursuing a loan deal for the 28-year-old ahead of the Turkish transfer window closing on Friday, but Kocaman has indicated to the media that it had fallen through.
Costa is yet to return to Chelsea for the new season, having remained in Brazil in a bid to force a move to Atletico Madrid.
Atletico's transfer ban means the Spain forward cannot play for them until January at the earliest.
Fenerbahce were reported to have been negotiating to bring him to their Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Thursday, but their efforts have been fruitless.
"The transfer of Diego Costa was very close. But then the result was negative," Kocaman said, as quoted by CNN's Turkish website.
