Manchester City sources claim reports that Pep Guardiola is ready to spend another £150million in January are "complete fantasy".
And the Etihad chief won't even be allowed to bring in any further players in the New Year window unless he now trims his squad.
Guardiola spent £160million in the summer to recruit John Stones, Leroy Sane, Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus.
City are now linked to moves for Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin and Juventus and Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci.
Club insiders confirm that while both players are "on the radar", any move for Bellerin won't happen before next summer and, much as they still covet Bonucci, the current foreign squad quotas are at a maximum.
Winger Jesus Navas is already expected to be dropped down from the Champions League squad when Brazil forward, Jesus, arrives in mid-January.
The Citizens have a total of six players all out of contract next summer and they don't see any of them leaving before then.
