Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is ready to cash in on Chris Smalling and Phil Jones at the end of the season, reports claim.
The defensive duo were both criticised following the 1-0 defeat against Newcastle at the weekend, and that has kicked off fresh speculation suggesting they could be heading for the exit door when the transfer window re-opens.
United may have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, but that is not stopping suggestions Mourinho will look to reshape his backline during the close season.
There will be no shortage of admirers in the duo should United decide to sell, with Arsenal known to be big admirers of Smalling after losing out to the Reds when they snapped him up from Fulham.
As for replacements, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane is a long-term target for Mourinho and an approach could be made, while there is also talk that a £50million bid could go in for Leicester central defender Harry Maguire.
