Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu says he feels happy and confident now he has established himself in the side.
Romeu joined Saints in the summer of 2015 but he had to settle for a substitute role for much of last season, with Victor Wanyama ahead of him in the pecking order.
The Spanish midfielder has now firmly established himself as a regular following Wanyama's exit under Claude Puel and Romeu is delighted with his new role at the club.
"I think when you play and you're getting those minutes in the bag that's much better for everyone," he told the club's official website.
"You feel more confident on the pitch and you feel that you know more what you're doing and you know your teammates a lot more, and I think, after that, the performances get better, so that's one of the reasons.
"Also, the way we're playing and the way everyone is training, we are all trying to do our best, and I think that comes through in the games."
He added: "Having minutes and having games I think makes you feel more confident and play much better. I'm still trying to improve a lot of things, and I still want to get better and help the team a lot more."
