South Sydney Rabbitohs star Sam Burgess has been given the England armband ahead of the upcoming Four Nations tournament.
The 27-year-old has been back in rugby league for a year following a disappointing spell in rugby union which failed to turn out as the Yorkshireman would have hoped with Bath and England.
Having enjoyed a season back in the NRL, now Burgess is looking to guide England to international success, as they prepare to face Australia, New Zealand and Scotland in the Four Nations.
Wigan's Sean O'Loughlin had been carrying the armband for the national side but has been ruled out for the entire tournament through injury and Burgess could be the man to take the captaincy for the long term if he impresses in the Four Nations.
England will kick-start their campaign when they host New Zealand in Huddersfield on October 29.
