Southampton are believed to be one of three Premier League clubs interested in Malaga attacking midfielder Juan Pablo 'Juanpi' Anor.
Reports on Sunday claimed Saints are considering a January bid for the Venezuela international, having watching 'Juanpi' in his last two La Liga outings.
Southampton were also actively scouting Malaga players in pre-season when another player, Recio, was rumoured to be the target.
Juanpi is valued at around £18million by the Andalusian side, who are trying to extend his contract by two years to tie him down at La Rosaleda until 2020.
And those new contract terms would reportedly lead to an increased release clause of £25million.
Southampton could face competition from Middlesbrough for Juanpi, according to previous reports, with the left-footed wide player having been likened to Manchester City's Raheem Sterling by Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.
Juanpi has been with Malaga for the past seven years and holds a Spanish passport, meaning he would not require a work permit to play in England.
