Southampton are the latest club to be linked with a January swoop for Newcastle’s misfiring striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The 23-year-old moved to St James' Park from Belgian club Anderlecht in the summer of 2015 and managed to bag nine top-flight goals from 34 appearances in his first season as the Magpies dropped into the Championship.
The Serbia international enjoyed only 25 outings in the second tier and managed just four goals as the North East outfit bounced straight back to the Premier League.
He has scored once this term from 30 minutes of action and has already picked up a three-match ban for an elbow on West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini back in August as his suspect temperament got the better of him once again.
It seems as though his days on Tyneside may be numbered, with manager Rafa Benitez growing impatient and a move away might suit all parties.
Brighton have already been linked but now their south-coast neighbours seem to have thrown their hat into the ring, according to The Guardian.
Saints are in need of striking reinforcements as goals have been hard to come by this campaign, with only nine in the top flight to date.
