Sunderland are one of five clubs reportedly interested in signing out-of-favour Barcelona right-back Aleix Vidal in January.
The 27-year-old has been at Barca for more than a year, having originally signed for £15m in June 2015, but has started in only seven La Liga games.
Barca boss Luis Enrique has never selected Vidal to start a Champions League match and appears to have lost all belief in the player this season, where he has featured in just one league game.
In fact Vidal, who is under contract until 2020, has not featured in the last four match-day squads named by Enrique.
The Catalan club are currently on the lookout for a replacement with Vidal expected to be on his way in January – either on loan or on a permanent deal.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo last week revealed the names of five clubs they claim are keen to pick up Vidal during the next transfer window.
Sunderland are joined in the race by AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli and struggling Spanish outfit Granada.
