Francesca Schiavone got the defence of her French Open title underway this morning with a straight forward win over Melanie Oudin.
The Italian number one was first on the Court Philippe Chatrier but faced little resistance from the American.
Schiavone did drop her serve in the opening game but she soon pulled herself together to dominate all aspects of the match.
She needed just sixty two minutes to dispatch Oudin 6-2 6-0 and march into the second round.
Speaking to the WTA after the match Schiavone said: "I was excited to be there at 11am on centre court. Great, for me it was great.
"I was nervous, but with good feeling. It was a mix between nervous and the chance to play the tennis I love.
"I'm still shaking a little bit. I felt so happy to be there. The court is fantastic - it's compact, it's perfect.
"Like when you go home and your mom does everything for you, you feel comfortable - it was like that, but with a lot of adrenaline."
She will now face Vesna Dolonts - who overcame Anne Keothavong in three sets 3-6 7-6 6-4.
